Air pollution - May 2018
Shaun had responded to the Green Journeys press release. As a result of this Hallam FM contacted us and Beatrice gave an interview for the main news bulletin which went out at drive time.

Media Work
We have been informed that Sheffield Live would like more guest speakers on their "Sounzabouright" show. See http://web.sheffieldlive.org/shows/sounzaboutright/ for details. Guests generally need to be there between 3.40pm-5pm on a Thursday.
Whilst some of our members didn't fancy doing a radio interview, other members agreed to give it ago as it is a good opportunity to get our message across and is good practice for future radio and TV interviews. We also agreed that two members would be better than one as it can reduce the pressure and stress. We were informed after the meeting that Beatrice has signed up to do more shows on their radio station.
We also discussed using the print media more often. Jane agreed to produce draft articles and distribute them to the group so we can approve them before sending them to the media. We would need to let Jane know the topic well in advance.

Sun on Sun Update - July 2015
Our Sun On Sun press release was featured in the Sheffield Star on Friday 26 June 2015.
Richard has been to a meeting with Sheffield Renewables, which has the same aims as FoE, but they have more technical know-how. For example, they are able to calculate the potential solar energy output of any roof, using Google Earth.
Richard has been in touch with one school, which is interested, and was given information about other schools.
A meeting has been arranged with Councillor Terry Fox on 19 August from 4 pm to 5 pm. Only one person will be able to attend, apparently because space is limited. That person will be Beatrice, who will need to be briefed before the meeting. There will be a pre-meeting on 30 July before Beatrice's meeting with Cllr Terry Fox.
We have a case study on Hunters Bar school. Shaun will put the existing version of the case study on the website. It can be revised, if need be, when Kiran reports back. It was also suggested that the case study is expanded to give more information, such as a step-by-step guide (including administrative and technical matters) on how to get a solar panel on a roof.
Marks & Spencer's are offering £400,000 for community groups who are interested in renewable projects. Sheffield Renewables have put in a bid for this scheme. however, the deadline is July 29. See our Facebook posts for more details.

Sheffield Rivers Rally
Sheffield Climate Alliance's River Rally took place on Sunday 21st September to link in with the huge People’s Climate March in New York to lobby the UN Summit on Climate Change. There were over 1500 events all over the world happening on the same day.
In Sheffield over 30 groups, including Sheffield Friends of the Earth, walked along the 4 rivers to meet in the city centre for a rally at 3pm. Each river walk was represented with a colour.
BLUE - Upper Don starting from Hillsborough corner - Clean water and No Fracking
BLACK - Porter Brook - For divestment from Fossil Fuels and for investment in renewable energy
RED – Millhouses - For Climate Jobs and Warm Homes
YELLOW - Lower Don Valley - For safe food and No Flooding

Smithy Wood
David has spent a lot of time researching and putting forward an objection for the proposed M1 service station at Smithy Wood. His press release was featured in the Sheffield Telegraph on Thursday 18 September (see below). He has also objected to Sheffield City Council on behalf of the group.

40th Birthday Planning
Emails to publicise our 40th birthday party have gone out to National FoE, SCA/SCACC, Beekeepers Association, Permaculture Group, SYEC, David Garlovksy, Transition Sheffield, Green Party, Sheffield Renewables, Greenpeace, Maureen, WDM, CPRE, and Sheffield City Council.
Shaun sent a press release to the Sheffield Telegraph publicising the event. It was featured in the September 18th edition. Shaun has also been asked to write a 400 word article for the newspaper later this month.
Tickets were distributed to members at the last meeting so they can be sold immediately when talking to people.
